Grout Staining vs. Cleaning vs. Sealing
Cleaning is the right first step when grout is only dirty on the surface. Once soil, soap, and minerals have soaked in, or the grout was never one even color, cleaning alone will not bring it back.
Clear sealing helps grout resist new stains, but it locks in whatever color the grout already is. Grout staining, often called color sealing, goes further: the joints are deep-cleaned and prepared, then coated line by line with a colored sealer so the whole surface reads as one uniform color.
Regrouting is different again. If grout is cracked, crumbling, or missing, those joints are repaired or replaced before any color is applied, because stain cannot hold together failing grout.
